Risi, Tafel Trade Wins

Mika Salo and Jaime Melo consult strategy with Risi Technical Manager, Rick Mayer, in the pits.
Setting a modern precedent, three Ferrari teams and a wide assortment of other marques continue to compete for the GT2 podium.  A lot of racing has transpired since the last issue of e-News.  Here's a quick summary.

With barely five days to spare after Lime Rock, where Mika Salo and Jaime Melo of Risi Competizione seized a GT2  third, ALMS reconvened at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, OH.  Here  the Tafel Racing team of Dominik Farnbacher and Dirk Muller proved victorious, placing their Ferrari No. 71 on the pinnacle of the GT2 podium with an overall placement of ninth place ahead of several LMP1 and P2 entries.

At  the Generac 500 race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI Aug. 9, Dominik Farnbacher and Dirk Muller’s F430 Ferrari placed third.  The Grand Prix of Mosport, in Bowmanville, Ontario Aug. 24, the yearly ALMS venture into Canada, Risi Competizione took their first GT2 first place of the 2008 American Le Mans Series season.  Three of the top 16 finishers at Bowmanville were Ferrari entries.

Jaime Melo and Mika Salo anxiously await the decision of the judges on their 3rd place victory at Lime Rock.
Finally, at the Detroit Sports Car Challenge at the Raceway at Belle Island Park in Detroit, MI Aug. 30, Risi Competizione's Car No. 62 team of Mika Salo and Jaime Melo took third on the 2.07-mile course.  The next ALMS event is the 11th running of the  cornerstone Petit LeMans race at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA Oct. 1-4.

ALMS races are best enjoyed with other Ferrari enthusiasts and the best way to find yourself in such company would be to contact your local Ferrari dealer and inquire about the GT Club program.

GT Clubs are informal gatherings, often to support charities (see this issue’s Experience chapter).  GT Club events are sponsored by dealers and may include special parking arrangements at the track as well as collateral activities which enhance the pleasure of Ferrari ownership.
