Request a brochure from the vendor. Often, the level of professionality of the brochure will give you an idea of the company behind them. Is the brochure well written, free of typographical and grammatical errors? Is it well designed and does it clearly display the capabilities of the company? Is the size and "slickness" of the brochure commensurate with your expectations?

These and other considerations, applied to a selection of brochures from companies you have identified, may lead you to assumptions regarding their initial ranking. Resist the urge to cull or promote to full acceptance any one of the companies based only on their brochure. Instead go on to acquire further evidence.
