40th Anniversary of 365 GTB4 "Daytona"

These 20 Ferrari Daytonas parade at Mugello in celebration of their 40th anniversary, but even while cruising, they seem to be racing at high speed.
At Ferrari, commemoratives and anniversaries are always serious affairs and often portend the announcement of a new model.  Supercars like the F40, F50 and Enzo appear on the decade anniversaries of Ferrari's birth The triple win of the Ferrari 330P4 at Daytona in 1967 was commemorated by the debut of the legendary 365 GTB4--better known as the Daytona--at the Paris Car Show in 1968 and continued in production until 1973.

The Daytona’s 40th anniversary was recently celebrated during the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge at Mugello, Italy.  A special parade of 20 365 GTB4 Daytonas filed over the Abetone pass, through Fiesole, Lucca and Florence and arrived at Mugello.

The race event, part of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the Daytona, was held on parts of the "Circuito delle Tre Province" where Enzo Ferrari participated in his last race as a driver See a video of the Daytona parade here.

Ferrari owners and their companions gather before a display of their 20 365 GTB4 Daytonas, assembled on the main straight of the track at Mugello.
The 365 GTB4 Daytona was originally conceived by Maranello as an interim model, introduced between the 275 GTB4 and 365 GT4 which was still in development. Only 1,284 were made (some argue 1,350), each powered by a four-liter V-12 engine and 5-speed transmission that could launch the vehicle to a top speed of 173.6 MPH for a zero-to-six time of 6.1 seconds.  The unique wedge shaped design became an automotive icon that influenced future Ferraris, Lamborghinis and American supercars alike.

At the top of most collectors’ wish lists and commanding exceptionally strong auction prices, pristine Daytonas are rarely seen parked, much less driving competitively at speed.  But your eyes can feast to their pupil’s content at the next Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge race at Infineon Raceway May 2-4.  And while our eyes are feasting, why not the rest of you?  Ferrari VIP Hospitality passes provide sumptuous breakfast buffets, gourmet lunches, healthy snacks and beverages all day long.
