Three Ferrari Teams Competing in ALMS

A Risi Competizione mechanic putting on the pressure.
Often sports car enthusiasts lament  the good old days have gone and passed; days, when young drivers would practice race craft in open meadows or undeveloped communities, staked out to simulate famous European courses. Those were days when many teams competed simultaneously under the prancing horse logo in a single race.

Ferraristi, those days have returned!  Perhaps not since the early 1960s, when Ferraris repeatedly won both Sebring and Daytona, have we had the pleasure of seeing a nationally sanctioned race series hosting three teams driving Ferrari motorcars; the American LeMans Series.

Heading the equestrian trio is Risi Competizione, the 2007 ALMS champions, recently profiled in e-NEWS Issue 13, composed of drivers Mika Salo and Jaime Melo.

2007 was the first year owner-driver Jim Tafel attempted the 12 hours of Sebring, placing two cars in the top five--including a third place finish.  Tafel Racing is entering two F430 GTCs. The No. 71 is to be driven by Dominik Farnbacher and Dirk Müller; and the No. 73 by Pierre Ehret and Tafel himself.

After two starts in 2007, Corsa Motorsports, returns to Sebring this year with an F430 GT. Johnny Mowlem, who drove for Risi last season, is to join Ralf Kelleners and Gunnar Jeannete in the No. 48 supervised by owner Steve Pruitt.  Visit their website, which opens with a breathtaking video!

One of the best ways to enjoy ALMS race action is by participating in the Ferrari GT Club.  Many Ferrari dealers work with Ferrari North America to offer a GT Club to owners and their guests, a sure way to share the excitement of the brand among a group of distinctive, like-minded individuals.  Call your local dealer and ask if the dealer sponsors a GT Club.   Support the stemma rosso!  Find a local Ferrari dealer here.
